Taylor Swift’s song “Mean” is an empowering, anti-bullying anthem. It’s about being teased and tormented by someone mean, but later overcoming it. Taylor says that she while she will move on to bigger and better things, all her bully will ever be is mean.
Taylor Swift is an awesome role model for tweens, and her song “Mean” is a great indication of that. “Mean” is an incredibly empowering song about bullying. Though it acknowledges the impact bullies have on their victims (“you, with your words like knives and swords and weapons that you use against me/you have knocked me off my feet again, got me feeling like I’m nothing”), it also takes the bully’s power away. Taylor doesn’t allow her bully’s words to define her and succeeds in spite of them. She knows that while she’ll move on to bigger and better things, all her bully is ever going to be is mean!
