“Wizards of Waverly Place” is a Disney Channel Original television series starring Selena Gomez, David Henrie, and Jake T. Austin as three wizard siblings with magical abilities. The three live on Waverly Place in New York City’s Greenwich Village with their mother, a mortal, and father, a former wizard. The siblings participate in wizard training, preparing for a wizard competition which will decide who of the three will become the family wizard of their generation and keep their powers.
I watched my first episode (“Don’t Rain on Justin’s Parade”) of “Wizards of Waverly Place” this morning and…I enjoyed it! The show is age-appropriate for tween viewers, though some older tweens might find it a tad cheesy. The show’s premise is entertaining and its characters often comical. Selena Gomez’s character, Alex, is sarcastic and a little rebellious. In this episode, however, Alex helps the principal solve crimes at school and “becomes good.” It was fun to watch her character develop and grow, and the show’s overall lesson was a positive one for viewers, promoting smart and responsible behavior.
